Albert Martínez-Silvestre is PhD in Veterinary Medicine by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Diploma in Herpetology by the European College of Zoo Medicine (ECZM) (2009) and Accredited Specialist in exotic animals by AVEPA (Veterinarian Association of Specialists in Small Animals) en 2012. He is the scientific director of CRARC (Recovery Center of Amphibians and Reptiles of Catalonia). He is member of the scientific committee of the Group on Exotic Animal Medicine of AVEPA, ARAV (Association of Amphibian and Reptile Veterinarians) and ECZM. He is chief veterinarian in several projects about herpetological fauna management, including those on conservation of the “giant lizards from Canary Islands”, “Introduction of giant turtles in Rodrigues Island (Mauritius Islands)", and eradication of invasive turtles in Catalonia. During his long career as redactor and speaker, he has accumulated more than 400 conferences and scientific, technical or dissemination articles. Among his main books we highlight “Manual clínico de Reptiles” (1994), “El Terrario” (1996), “Tortugas de España” (1999), “Memorix: clínica de animales exóticos” (2003), “Enfermedades de los reptiles” (2004), “100 preguntas sobre reptiles” (2007) or “Manual Clinico de Animales exóticos” (2009). He is the author of the chapter “Galápago de Florida, Trachemys scripta” in the Iberian Vertebrates Virtual Encyclopaedia (2011).
